History:

The Mexican government granted a land patent for a 6,600 acre rancho, back in 1840 making Los Gatos one of Santa Clara County’s oldest communities. Originally named La Rinconada de Los Gatos or Cat’s Corner because of the mountain lions prowling at night. Today Los Gatos is approximately 14 square miles and the population is estimated to be 30,391.
